Sentinel of American Comics — Chapter 327 Arrest

SHIELD headquarters, conference room.

Alexander Pierce tapped his fingers on the table. It was hard to imagine that the former director of SHIELD would actually be a Hydra.

He was once Nick Fury’s superior, and single-handedly promoted him to the position of director. He also served as an important leader of the national security department, often visiting the White House, and currently serves as an advisor to the World Security Council.

Under a series of shining halo, it is actually a senior member of Hydra. This is undoubtedly a wonderful irony.

“Has the Winter Soldier’s mission been completed?” He put on a miniature headset and communicated through an encrypted channel.

Due to the strong request of the World Security Council, Nick Fury opened some permissions of the S.H.I.E.L.D. database, causing the “Insight Project” to surface.

This aroused Alexander Pierce’s vigilance. If this thing was really done to Nick Fury and global monitoring and tracking was achieved, Hydra would no longer have a place.

So he decided to strike first and get rid of the obstructive black director. When SHIELD was leaderless, Pierce would undoubtedly take over the position due to his own prestige and ability.

“The operation failed, the Winter Soldier disappeared.” A voice came from the other end of the headset.

The Winter Soldier who captured Nick Fury suddenly couldn’t find a trace, and the signal of the positioning device implanted under the skin disappeared. This made Hydra feel baffled. For a long time, this brainwashed killing machine has never made any mistakes.

“Trash!” Pierce slammed the table hard and showed a rare angry look. “The Winter Soldier is not important! Nick Fury is the key! We must find him!”

Without the super soldiers, Hydra can continue to produce, but the black director who was finally captured is a rare and important bargaining chip. The other party holds a large number of SHIELD’s core secrets, which has incomparable and huge value.

Pierce knew very well that Fury was very wary and suspicious, and would never completely trust anyone. Even his confidant Agent Coulson, Maria Hill, would have reservations.

So he didn’t kill the one-eyed black man immediately, just to pry more secrets out of the other person’s mouth. When it comes to torture and mental brainwashing, this is of course Hydra’s specialty.

“Before Nick Fury was captured, he sent an encrypted message to Steve Rogers.” The second piece of bad news followed.

Pierce’s expression was solemn. Captain America was Hydra’s old rival. The Red Skull had lost to the opponent in the first place and almost wiped out the entire organization.

Later, the Strategic Science Corps, the predecessor of S.H.I.E.L.D., launched the “Paperclip Project” and recruited a number of German scientists to absorb and digest the fruits of victory. This also gave Hydra a great opportunity to come back to life.

“Bring Captain Rogers.” Pierce took off his headset. Since there was an accident in the plan, he had to deal with it.

Twenty minutes later, Captain America, wearing a star-spangled uniform, came to the conference room. Pierce was the only one waiting quietly in the large room.

“I’m Alexander Pierce. Nice to meet you. My father used to be in the 101st Airborne Division. He often told me about your heroic deeds.”

Pierce adjusted his glasses. As a senior agent, he was proficient in various psychological tactics. To deal with the famous Captain America, we must not use such crude methods as force and threats.

“This photo was taken five years after Nick and I met. At that time, I was at the Colombian State Department. The local National Liberation Army occupied the embassy. The guards helped me escape, but the rebels took the hostages. Nick was the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s foreign security, and he came up with a plan to conduct a raid through the sewers to rescue trapped government officials.”

Pierce was talking to himself, with a faint look of nostalgia on his face, as if he was immersed in the emotions of the past.

Steve looked at the photo in silence. He had never been a good communicator, so he just listened quietly.

“…I vetoed the action plan and said that the rebels would negotiate sooner or later. The result was unexpected. The rebels ordered a shoot-to-kill operation. They raided the basement and found no one there… Nick did not obey my direct order and acted without permission. , completed the mission and rescued more than a dozen government officials in one go, including my daughter.”

“Captain, I have never regretted promoting Nick and taking him to the position of director. In fact, he did a better job than me.”

Pierce’s eyes remained motionless, staring at Captain America, and said with a serious expression: “I want to know the true content of that message.”

The unexpected words made Steve’s eyes flicker. He was not good at lying, and he couldn’t deceive a senior agent.

But thinking of the message in Nick Fury’s message, he still chose to remain silent.

This is not to say that Steve does not trust Alexander Pierce. This middle-aged man wearing glasses has an impeccable and glorious resume that cannot be questioned by anyone.

But Steve doesn’t think he is a smart man. He will only seriously carry out the tasks assigned by others, just like he did on the battlefield seventy years ago.

“You may not know that Nick installed a surveillance system in your house, and the female neighbor who is in isolation is an agent of SHIELD.”

Pierce’s attempt to break down Captain America’s psychological defense didn’t seem to work. Steve’s face was calm, with no sign of anger.

“Sir, the current situation is very urgent. I have to rush to investigate the killer.” Captain America stood up and prepared to leave.

“I serve as an advisor on the Board not of my own volition, but of Nick’s own initiative, because we are both realists and understand that apart from diplomacy and hypocrisy, there is a need to build a better new world. The time has come to destroy the old world, and this will inevitably make enemies.”

Pierce sat motionless in his seat, tapping his fingers on the table, making a “dong-dong” sound.

“Others will say you are shameless and dirty because you do not hesitate to do shameful things just to create the beautiful world in your heart.” His tone turned cold. “Captain, before Nick disappeared, you were the only person he contacted – he trusted you.”

“And I also hope that you can give me a trust, maybe this will allow SHIELD to find new clues, so I ask one last time – what did Nick tell you?”

“He told me not to trust anyone,” Steve replied.

Pierce showed a hint of shock, then regained his composure. He was still sitting in his seat, taking off his glasses and wiping away the non-existent dust.

“I have to find out the truth, and I will make him regret whoever stands in the way – no matter who it is!”

“Excuse me.”

Looking at Captain America pushing open the door and leaving, the Hydra executive picked up the phone on his desk and said coldly: “Arrest Captain Rogers.”

The Winter Soldier is missing, Nick Fury’s whereabouts are unknown, and accidents happen one after another. He can no longer create complications and control the situation within S.H.I.E.L.D. with lightning speed.
